Ignoring the possibility that in the wrong hands almost any object, including this book you hold, can turn into Exhibit A in a murder trial; ignoring, for the moment, the far more interesting possibility that every object might lead a secret life, it is still safe to say that objects, as we understand them, are relatively stable, whereas ideas are definitely unstable, they not only can be misused, they invite misuse — and the better the idea the more volatile it is. That's because only the better ideas turn into dogma, and it is this process whereby a fresh, stimulating, humanly helpful idea is changed into robot dogma that is deadly.

Minnesota Center for Book Arts instructor Aki Shibata and artist Sam Hoolihan lead the curious on four bookmaking adventures that utilize audience-generated text messages, photos, found objects, and even paper! Panelists include artists Buzz Spector and Harriet Bart, and James Hoff of Primary Information.

On the subject of art, Manifesta 7 was two weekends ago, it took place in Bolzano, Fortezza, Trento, Roverto -- in the South Tyrolian mountains of northern Italy. Here is an interview with the main curator, Adam Budak, that talks about the different approach that the european contemporary art fair had this year. I wish I could understand better what he is saying, sound really interesting but is hard for a person that english is their second language to understand a person that english is their second language as well. It might seem logical that the communication between two non english speakers would be easier but it is not the case. Any ways here it is, maybe you can translate it for me:

loving Velazquez's work is for me a natural state. Las Mininas is one of the greatest master pieces of all times. He deficit rules on perspective and protocol, basically being the first artist to tell in an intelligent way to "fuck off" to the queen and king of spain. A lot of people have proclaim him one of the first conceptual painters. I don't know if this is certain but the truth is that he certainly was innovative for his time. A few days ago I found this artist Leigh Wells that take old postcard and classical Velazquez painting and deconstructs them. Strangely enough, I like this stuff a lot. Maybe because I am gemini and I feel attracted to opposite things. But most of all, I like it because it is simple, graphic and take a timeless artist to a new form. here it is:

Sometimes working at the Navy Yard is not that bad. Yesterday they took down Andy's illustrations at the magazine shop of the 543 cafeteria and they were up for grabs. Kate an I have been spotting these pictures for a long time mostly because they are so funny and awesome and they are huge!!! She got one and so did I. Here is the one I got:
