"In these photographs, I respond to the work of deceased artists who addressed issues of self-portraiture, sentiment, and the relationship of their bodies to specific sites. I use an existing photographic reproduction of their work as a starting point—one that leads me on a search to find the location where the original work was made, or that I appropriate as a prop or set for a photograph where I insert my own body into the original scene.
I am interested in implying a kind of awkwardness, tenderness, and sense of historical slippage by rubbing shoulders with these ghosts." -Kristine
