I or should I write i. i read this article in the New York Times sunday magazine that completely amazed me. i am very fascinated by language, specially english, mainly because is a foreign way of communication to me or most of the time because it is a truly learning experience. Every day i hear or understand something new. This week the discovery was the reason why the pronoun i is capitalize in the english language. America and England are the only countries in the world to be so concern with the proper capitalization of such a simple pronoun. The writer arguments are based on capitalism, and individualism which I find highly interesting. I love how language shapes culture and culture is shape by language. It is truly a symbiotic relationship. Of course, like any other writer piece on a new paper right now, the writer whose name is Caroline Winter end the article by stating how many times each presidential candidate used the word i on the last speech in before the end of the primaries. Guess who did best? I mean also consider that the source was the NYT But Yes Obama won over Clinton and McCain. Winter states that " On the last day of voting, clinton led the pack with 64 "I"'s and McCain followed with 60. Obama's "I" count lagger at 30, and he was the only candidate whose combined "we"'s (37) and "you"'s (16) outnumbered his "I"'s." The question is whether or not english is ready to use i or we instead of I.
